Sri Lanka, Aug. 4 -- The Convener of the Joint Opposition, Prof. G.L. Peiris, yesterday strongly urged the Government to make a permanent appointment to the post of Commissioner General of Prisons, to address the structural deterioration and instability plaguing Sri Lanka's Penal system.
The ongoing leadership crisis in the Department of Prisons is the main reason for administrative instability for the recent wave of Prison violence.
Prof. G.L. Peiris questioned why a critical position like Commissioner General remains unfilled during an ongoing crisis, adding that short-term deployments fail to resolve root causes like overcrowding and poor management.
