Following reliable intelligence analysis conducted jointly by the Sri Lanka Navy, the Coast Guard and the Sri Lanka Police, the Navy's Long Range Naval Fleet had taken into custody five suspects along with a local multi-day fishing vessel that was transporting a suspected drug haul in the deep seas South of Dondra.
They are being brought ashore for further investigation and legal proceedings, officials said.
