Sri Lanka, Oct. 22 -- Formal investigations have been initiated regarding the placement of a statue of Rasaiah Parthipan alias Thileepan, a member of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

Statements have been recorded from 14 individuals, including politicians who assisted with the commemoration event and further action will be taken based on the advice of the Attorney General, Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananda Wijepala informed Parliament.

Responding to questions raised by Jaffna District Independent MP Archchuna Ramanathan under Standing Order 27 (2) in the House yesterday (21), he said that engaging in activities that directly or indirectly promote a proscribed terrorist organisation is unlawful.
