Accelerated Agricultural Drive to ease high cost of food - Academic

Sri Lanka, July 22 -- Faculty of Arts, University of Peradeniya, Prof. in Economic, Wasantha Athukorala yesterday highlighted the value of beginning an Accelerated Agricultural Drive (Waga Sangramaya) in the country, to ease the high cost of food.

Prof. Athukorala also focused special attention towards the current prices of certain food items and said this situation badly affects Low Income groups in the country. He said responsible authorities should encourage everybody to develop cultivable lands to produce food, rather than importing them from foreign countries, paying higher taxes and duty.

He said uplifting the country's agricultural drive ('Waga Sangramaya') is the only solution to solve our food scarcity.
