5,000 government-assisted houses to be handed over to the public today
Sri Lanka, Oct. 5 -- A total of 5,000 houses constructed with State assistance across the country will be handed over to the public today (05) in conjunction with the commemoration of World Habitat Day.
The main World Habitat Day ceremony will be held at Temple Trees under the patronage of Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya and Minister of Housing, Construction and Water Supply Dr. H.M. Susil Ranasinghe.
World Habitat Day is being commemorated this year under the theme "Adequate Housing for All."
The Ministry of Housing, Construction and Water Supply has also announced a National Housing Week to coincide with the observance.
Meanwhile, steps have been taken to complete and hand over a further 30,000 housing units by December 31.
