22nd Amendment to be tabled in Parliament today
Sri Lanka, Aug. 18 -- The proposed Twenty-Second Amendment to the Constitution which seeks to raise the retirement age of Supreme Court judges to 67 and Court of Appeal judges to 65, alongside related judicial reforms, is scheduled to be presented in Parliament by Justice and National Integration Minister Harshana Nanayakkara today (18).
Under Sri Lanka's proposed Twenty-Second Amendment, the Chief Justice must retire upon turning 67 or after completing six years in office, whichever comes first. This Amendment aims to reduce Court delays and help the Court of Appeal exercise its jurisdiction regionally across provinces.
