Sri Lanka, Sept. 26 -- Chief Government Whip and Minister Dr.Nalinda Jayatissa told Parliament yesterday that all who vote in favour of the 22nd Constitutional Amendment does so with sincere intentions - specifically, with the aim of strengthening the rule of law, ensuring judicial independence, and expediting the punishment of thieves and the corrupt.

"We acted in a highly democratic manner when introducing this amendment. We sought public opinion, verdict of the Supreme Court and later passed it through Parliament. This amendment raised the retirement age of nearly 400 judges, including the Chief Justice by two years. We did not show bias towards anyone.
