Sri Lanka, Aug. 27 -- President Anura Kumara Dissanayake yesterday said that, although a small group is attempting to frighten the public by talking about the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution, he would never take a decision that is detrimental to the public of the country.

The President said the new constitutional amendment was aimed at strengthening public confidence in the law and making the administration of justice more efficient, assuring the people that everyone would be treated equally before the law.

He also warned that the drug trade and the criminal underworld associated with it posed a major threat to the country and said the Government was determined to eradicate both for the sake of present and future generations.
