Sri Lanka, Sept. 20 -- This year, 1,960 people have lost their lives in road accidents, police announced at a special media briefing held today (20).

According to police, the fatalities were recorded across the island between January 1 and September 17.

During this period, 1,843 fatal road accidents were reported.

In addition, 3,708 serious accidents have also been reported so far this year, police further stated.
