Sri Lanka, June 22 -- Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe stated that since there is a surplus of white and red Nadu rice sufficient for four months, no rice shortage will occur in the country for the next four months, regardless of what disaster strikes.

The Minister also said that steps will be taken to establish two mills in the Anuradhapura and Ampara districts capable of purchasing 300,000 metric tons of wet paddy.

Minister Samarasinghe made these remarks on Saturday (20) while participating in the commencement ceremony of the project to develop and carpet a 2.2 km stretch of the Anuradhapura - Eppawala - Nellikulama road.
