'Independent, transparent probe needed'
Sri Lanka, July 7 -- Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa yesterday demanded an independent, impartial, and transparent investigation into the deadly violence at the Negombo Prison. He said the tragic loss of life and injuries during the unrest at the Negombo Prison were the direct result of the collapse and inefficiency of the country's prison administration.
He highlighted that the President, while previously serving in the Opposition, maintained that Governments must be held accountable for deaths inside prisons. He argued that the same standard must apply now.
