Nairobi, April 8 -- At least three people have died and several others injured after a building collapsed in Nairobi's Kibera slums on Wednesday.

Nairobi County Chief Officer in charge of Disaster Management and Response Bramwel Simiyu confirmed the deaths, and that six others had been rescued from a collapsed building under demolition in Kibera's High-Rise area.

"Six victims have been successfully rescued alive. Three bodies of middle aged males have been recovered from the debris. Four additional casualties  reported to be in critical condition evacuated and traversed to hospital by a police vehicle," Mr Simiyu told Nation.

Unknown number of people are still trapped in the rubble and recue efforts are ongoing
