Nairobi, April 29 -- Tanzanian musician Sefu Shabani Ramadhan, popularly known as Matonya, has been released from the Shimo La Tewa Prison in Mombasa after spending over 20 days in custody over rape allegations.

The Bongo music star walked out of prison on Tuesday evening after successfully securing the bond terms that had been issued by the Shanzu Court on April 9, 2026.

"Yes, he has been released. He left prison on Tuesday evening," said Rashid Naaman, his ally who had been camping at the Shanzu Courts since Matonya was charged.
