Nairobi, May 5 -- Every year during the rainy season, Mombasa braces for a familiar stretch of unrelenting downpour.
For days on end, the skies over Kenya's coast open without mercy, heavy rain pounding rooftops, narrow streets turning into streams, and the steady drumming of water becoming an inescapable soundtrack from dawn to dusk and deep into the night.
Locals have christened it "Mvua ya siku saba," a seven-day spell that is as predictable as it is disruptive.
