Kenyan truck drivers protest after death of colleague on Congo route
Nairobi, April 17 -- Truck drivers operating along the Northern Corridor have threatened to suspend services on routes into the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) following the killing of their colleague, an incident that has heightened concerns over safety on one of the region's key trade arteries.
The Long-Distance Drivers and Conductors Association (LoDDCA), their lobby, on Thursday urged the Kenyan Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs to urgently address rising insecurity affecting Kenyan truck drivers along the eastern DRC corridor.
The association said a series of incidents, including the killing of driver Edwin Njuguna, highlight serious safety concerns in cross-border transport operations.
