Nairobi, April 9 -- A Nairobi court has handed death sentences to four men convicted of violently robbing former Kabete MP George Muchai, his driver and two bodyguards in 2015, leading to their death. Their two female accomplices were sentenced to 10 years in prison each.

The death sentence against Eric Mungera Isabwa alias Chairman, Raphael Kimani Gachii alias Kim Butcher, Mustafa Kimani Anyoni alias Musto and Stephen Astiva Lipopo alias Chokore were handed down exactly 11 years and 39 days after the incident. A seventh suspect, Simon Wambugu, was acquitted.

While imposing the sentence, the trial magistrate ruled that "the four executed with utmost impunity the heinous crimes which included abduction and armed robbery."
