Uganda, April 20 -- A Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) sergeant and a suspected South Sudanese cattle raider were on Sunday during a crossfire at Kerwa Sub-county, Yumbe District.

One of the deceased has been identified as Sergeant Mukundane Jonas, 42, the In-Charge of Kupia Army Detachment, while the other remains unidentified.

The incident happened at around 5 pm in Kupia Village, Kupia Parish, during an operation to track armed raiders.

Police say UPDF officers at Kupia Army Detachment received information from a woman indicating that she had seen six men, five of them armed with rifles, moving towards Kilaji village.
