Uganda, April 10 -- Rising fuel prices linked to global tensions, including the ongoing situation involving US-Israel and Iran, are squeezing Uganda's transport sector, forcing operators to absorb higher costs or abandon work altogether, industry players say.

Across the country, boda-boda riders and taxi operators report shrinking earnings as commuters resist fare increases amid tough economic conditions.

In southwestern Uganda, the impact is already visible. In Kisoro District, about 20 percent of boda-boda riders using hired motorcycles have returned them due to surging petrol prices, according to the General Secretary of the Kisoro United Boda-boda Operators Association, Mr Baker Batamukoraho.
