Uganda, April 26 -- The Soroti city health department has stepped up awareness campaigns as 220 new cases of HIV are registered in the area within a year.
Soroti city health officer, Dr Alfred Anyonga, told this publication that the cases were recorded between January 2025 and January 2026, raising concerns among health workers.
"By January this year, 2026, from last year, our infection rate on prevalence we had 220 new infections, or our young people got infected throughout that period of one year," Dr Anyonga revealed.
He explained that the cases are predominant among young people, noting that it calls for concerted efforts to tame the situation.
