Uganda, April 8 -- Motorists and transport operators in Rukungiri District have raised concern over rising fuel prices, calling on government to intervene as transport costs continue to climb across the district.
Over the past few weeks, filling stations in the area have adjusted pump prices, with petrol now selling between Shs5,360 and Shs5,800 per litre, while diesel ranges between Shs5,000 and Shs5,500. Previously, petrol sold at Shs5,000-Shs5,200 and diesel at Shs4,500-Shs5,000.
The sharp increase has unsettled taxi drivers, boda boda riders and transporters, many of whom say their earnings have dropped as passenger fares remain largely unchanged.
