Uganda, May 8 -- Health workers and midwives across Uganda are urging government to recruit more midwives in health facilities, citing overwhelming workloads as the number of mothers seeking delivery services continues to rise.
They say the growing demand for maternal health services has far outpaced available staffing levels, leaving existing health workers overstretched and struggling to cope.
Ms Annet Evelyn Kanyuyuzi, President of the National Midwives Association of Uganda, said midwives remain at the frontline of saving the lives of mothers and newborns across the country.
