Over 61,000 public officers risk prosecution over failure to declare assets
Uganda, May 15 -- More than 61,000 public officers in Uganda risk prosecution after failing to declare their income, assets and liabilities in the April 2026 exercise, the Inspectorate of Government has said.
Inspector General of Government Justice Aisha Batala Naluzze said on Friday that only 241,230 of the 302,800 officers registered on the Inspectorate's Online Declaration System submitted declarations, leaving 61,570 non-compliant.
Though she called the 80% compliance rate an improvement from 2021, Naluzze warned that failing to declare breaches the Leadership Code Act and would attract sanctions.
