Uganda, May 3 -- Uganda's textile industry continues to face mounting pressure as limited domestic production struggles to meet the clothing needs of a growing population and an expansive regional market. The challenge was brought into sharp focus during an engagement with industry stakeholders at the Ministry of Finance, where State Minister for Investment and Privatization Evelyn Anite outlined the scale of the problem.

"With a population of about 45 million people in Uganda and nearly 300 million across the East African region, demand for clothing is enormous. Two companies cannot meet this demand," she said.
