Uganda, May 9 -- On May 13, newly elected Members of Parliament will start their journey to the August House with a swearing-in ceremony that will last three days. More than 500 legislators will form the 12th Parliament, whose term will run for the next five years. The commencement of their legislative work comes at a time when there is public loss of trust in the outgoing Parliament, which was dotted with scandals of corruption, questionable expenditures, absenteeism, and being labelled a rubber stamp for the ruling NRM party, among others.
With all these scandals, the new legislators have an opportunity to start their story on a clean slate, not only redefining the roles of an MP, but also showing the respect that comes with the honour...
