Uganda, April 14 -- The progress of works on the new Ssezibwa bridge over River Ssezibwa in Kayunga District has excited users, saying it will end their long struggles and suffering.

The Arch Bridge construction being undertaken by Dynaco Ltd is valued at Shs54 billion, works commenced in 2024, and is due to be completed in December this year. It replaces another bridge which had been installed 70 years ago and was already dilapidated.

Site Engineer, Sam Nabimanya, says the bridge works entail a 1.6-kilometre road stretch crossing over the Ssezibwa swamp.

Due to the poor state of the old bridge, heavy vehicles have been prevented from using it since 2024, forcing them to use longer routes.
