Ministry of Health to distribute 25.8 million nets to curb malaria
Uganda, April 9 -- The government is this month set to distribute 4.8 million mosquito nets targeting 8.1 million Ugandans in 32 districts with the aim of curbing malaria surge, especially among children.
This is part of 25.8 million nets that the Ministry of Health intends to distribute across 130 districts to curb malaria in the country. The World Health Organisation (WHO) suggests that each net is equivalent to two people.
The Ministry has appealed to the population to register for the nets through local leaders and Village Health Teams (VHTs), with recipients being urged to use them properly and consistently.
The abuse of mosquito nets has been common in Uganda, with some people using them for fishing, fencing or gardening.
