Uganda, April 13 -- Masindi District has lost about Shs18 million in pension overpayments to three retired civil servants, exposing continued gaps in public financial management and accountability in local governments, according to the Auditor General.

The findings are contained in Auditor General Edward Akol's report for the financial year ending December 2025, which flags irregularities in the computation and processing of pension gratuity payments through the government's Integrated Financial Management System (IFMS).

The audit shows that three estates received higher payouts than they were entitled to under the law, resulting in an overpayment of Shs18.28 million.
