Uganda, May 8 -- Police in Busia District shot and arrested a 40-year-old man after he allegedly attempted to attack officers with a panga at Busia Police Station on Thursday morning.

The suspect, identified as Godfrey Were, alias Nasaye, reportedly arrived at the station pretending to report a case before drawing a concealed panga and attempting to slash officers at the counter.

Mr Moses Namagese, a boda boda rider operating near the station in the Uganda-Kenya border district, said he saw the suspect arrive shortly before 6:00am on a motorcycle.

"He arrived on a boda boda, paid the rider Shs1,000, then briefly stood at the quarter guard before heading to the counter," Mr Namagese told Monitor following the incident.
