Uganda, May 14 -- At least 18 people have been convicted of capital offences including murder, aggravated robbery, defilement and rape during a High Court criminal session in Ntungamo District that lasted eight days.

The session, presided over by Kasese Resident Judge Lawrence Tweyanze Karikwisya, heard 50 cases between May 5 and May 13, 2026.

While concluding the session on Thursday, Justice Tweyanze sharply criticised police over poor investigations, saying weak case management and tampered evidence were undermining justice.

"Police have betrayed us, they have betrayed the office of DPP because many cases were poorly investigated, exhibits have been tampered and altered," Justice Tweyanze said.
