How group therapy has restored hope to Ugandans living with HIV
Uganda, May 11 -- A new study in Uganda shows that group therapy is helping people living with HIV overcome depression and regain hope.
The two-year study by the Medical Research Council and the LSHTM Uganda Research Unit found that participants in Group Support Psychotherapy became emotionally stronger, learned to manage stress, and drew strength from others facing similar challenges.
Researchers said the approach is improving mental health and helping many people live happier lives.
Prof. Etheldreda Nakimuli, the lead researcher, presented the findings to HIV prevention stakeholders in Hoima City over the weekend. She said depression is one of the most common mental health problems affecting people living with HIV.
