Govt starts nationwide study on livestock emissions
Uganda, April 18 -- The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, through a World Bank-funded project, the Uganda Climate Smart Agriculture Transformation Project, is in the process of establishing a Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) system to address livestock emissions across the country.
Livestock emissions are greenhouse gases, primarily methane, nitrous oxide, and carbon dioxide, released into the atmosphere from animal farming. Under the Livestock Value Chain Pathway, the project aims to achieve a "triple win" of increased productivity, enhanced resilience, and reduced greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across the livestock sector.
