Uganda, April 19 -- A section of medical practitioners is calling for the scaling up of community health outreaches to tackle the burden of curable diseases, which they say is partly driven by limited access to treatment and lack of information.
Wilson Okot, a doctor at the Uganda Cancer Institute, said early detection remains critical in reducing deaths, particularly from cancers, but many cases go unreported in communities.
"Cancers if diagnosed early, the chances of cure can be up to 100%. This is the reason why we are extending screening to communities to ensure cases are handled," he said during a health camp held in Luweero on April 18.
