Anti-EACOP activists convicted, lawyer protests
Uganda, April 10 -- The Buganda Road Court has convicted the eight environmental activists on charges of common nuisance, related to a protest against the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP). Magistrate Sylvia Muwonge stated that the court will issue a sentence on April, 17, 2026. "They were all convicted of public nuisance; next Friday (April 17), the court will give a sentence to all the accused to set a good example for others," Muwonge said during the court session on Friday.
The convicts are Teopista Nakyambadde, Shammy Nalwadda, Dorothy Asio, Shafik Kalyango, Noah Kafiiti, Ismail Zziwa, Akram Katende, and Keisha Ali. The activists under their umbrella, Rooted in Resistance, formerly Students Against EACOP Ug...
