Sri Lanka, Aug. 5 -- A woman has been sentenced to 14 years' rigorous imprisonment after being found guilty of culpable homicide not amounting to murder over the killing of her husband in Rideemaliyedda in 2012.

The Badulla High Court, presided over by Judge Jeyaram Trosky, convicted Thisswalangu Mudiyanselage Niluka Damayanthi, who had originally been indicted on a charge of murder, of the lesser offence of culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

The court heard that on August 25, 2012, Damayanthi, who was 24 years old at the time, hacked her husband, Herath Mudiyanselage Premaratne, 26, to death with an axe.
