Sri Lanka, May 25 -- Former Minister Wimal Weerawansa was arrested a short while ago after arriving at the Thalangama Police Station to record a statement, Police said.

He was taken into custody by a special Police team upon his arrival at the station.

Earlier, Police confirmed that summons had been issued directing him to appear before the Thalangama Police today after he failed to appear yesterday.

Weerawansa appeared before the Police to provide a statement over allegations of disrupting activities at the National War Memorial in Battaramulla.
