Sri Lanka, Aug. 1 -- A 24-year-old woman was killed and another person critically injured in a wild elephant attack in Thirappane, Anuradhapura, on July 25.

According to police, the incident occurred near a reservoir in Mahawewa, where two elephants had reportedly strayed from a nearby forest. Residents had attempted to drive the animals back into the wild by firing shots to scare them off.

CCTV footage captured the moment the elephants suddenly charged at the group of villagers during the attempt.

One of the elephants fatally attacked the young woman and left another individual seriously injured. The injured person is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.
