Sri Lanka, Oct. 1 -- Officials of the Weligama Municipal Council refrained from performing their duties, claiming that Deputy Chairman Arindra Sanath Kumara had threatened the Municipal Council Accountant, a senior official said.

The dispute reportedly arose after an employee applied for a personal loan. According to sources, Deputy Chairman Kumara, representing the Independent Group, allegedly demanded that Municipal Council Accountant Nuwan Ude Kumara urgently provide the funds. The accountant subsequently lodged a complaint with the Weligama Police.
