Sri Lanka, July 10 -- Committee on Public Finance (COPF) Chairman Harsha de Silva told Parliament today that the loss of US$2.5 million during the repayment of a loan to Export Finance Ltd., Australia, was a clear case of cybercrime and theft.

Presenting a COPF report to Parliament, Dr. de Silva said the incident amounted to a serious financial crime and called on law enforcement authorities to conduct comprehensive investigations and take legal action against all those responsible.

He also said that institutional shortcomings and lapses in procedures among the entities involved had contributed to the cyber heist.
