Sri Lanka, July 24 -- Ilankai Tamil Arasu Katchchi (ITAK) Batticaloa District MP Shanakyan Rasamanickam said there have been numerous complaints of organised frauds in which individuals are extorted large sums of money by promising employment, work visas or opportunities to migrate to European countries.

Addressing the House yesterday (23) he said that while some of the frauds are carried out by unregistered agents, there have also been complaints against agents registered with the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE).

He said that this highlights the need for a co-ordinated and dedicated law enforcement effort to investigate these crimes.
