University lecturers to strike tomorrow, FUTA says
Sri Lanka, Sept. 8 -- University lecturers have decided to launch a one-day strike tomorrow (9), the Federation of University Teachers' Associations (FUTA) said.
FUTA Secretary Senior Lecturer Charudatta Ilangasinghe said the union had been engaged in trade union action throughout the past week over the serious problems facing Sri Lanka's state university system.
He said the shortage of lecturers and the lack of suitably qualified academic staff had become a major concern.
As a result, a situation has arisen where students who sat for the 2025 G.C.E. Advanced Level examination cannot be admitted to state universities, he said.
