Underground clay pipe system unearthed at ancient Yapahuwa
Sri Lanka, Aug. 18 -- Archaeologists have uncovered important evidence of settlements and the daily lives of ordinary people during excavations at the historic Yapahuwa Kingdom under the Wayamba Project.
The most significant discovery is a previously unknown underground clay pipe system, parts of which have been unearthed in the western section of the outer city. Researchers believe the system may have been used to transport some form of liquid.
Several clay pipe structures running parallel to each other in opposite directions have been identified within the same structure. Archaeologists say a system of this nature has not previously been discovered at any other archaeological site in Sri Lanka.
