Srilanka, Oct. 19 -- A train travelling from Colombo Fort to Avissawella derailed between the Kosgama and Avissawella Railway Stations at around 6.45 p.m. today, the Railways Department confirmed.

The incident occurred after a tree and a mound of earth, dislodged by the prevailing heavy rains, fell onto the railway line. Only one wheel of the train was reported to have derailed.

As a result, train operations on the Kelani Valley Line have been temporarily restricted to run up to Kosgama. Railways officials are working to clear the track and restore normal services.
