Sri Lanka, Aug. 13 -- A hundred years ago, on 13 August 1926, Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz, came into this world. Ten years ago, on 25 November 2016, he departed.

In those 90 intervening years, Fidel (as he is known affectionately) made an impact on the world far out of proportion from the size or population of the island of Cuba, his home.

The revolution he led, almost on the verandah (so to speak) of the World's major imperialist power, the USA, put him firmly on the geopolitical map. Havana became the epicentre of anti-imperialism in the then developing world. In 1979, he became the leader of the Non-Aligned Movement, then at its apogee.
