Sri Lanka, Sept. 15 -- The complaint lodged with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) over alleged promotion of the banned Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) at a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) rally in Anuradhapura has been handed over to the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) for investigation.

Police Spokesman ASP F.U. Wootler said the Inspector General of Police had directed the investigation to be handed over to the TID.

Yesterday, a group of civil society members identifying themselves as the "Joint Opposition" lodged a complaint following allegations that statements made during the rally amounted to promoting or supporting the LTTE, which remains a proscribed organisation in Sri Lanka.
