Sri Lanka, May 25 -- The of Meteorology Department has issued a warning that thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely to occur at several places in the Uva Province and in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 1.00 p.m. today.

The department said temporary localized strong winds may also occur during thundershowers and urged the public to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.

People have been advised to seek shelter indoors during thunderstorms and avoid taking cover under trees. The Meteorology Department also warned against remaining in open areas such as paddy fields, tea plantations and open water bodies during adverse weather conditions.
