Sri Lanka, Aug. 22 -- A suspect has died following a shootout with the Special Task Force (STF) in the Wewegama forest area of Sooriyawewa, Hambantota.

Police said the suspect succumbed to injuries while being treated in the hospital.

An STF officer injured in the incident has also been admitted to the Sooriyawewa Hospital.

It was reported that two suspects were involved in the confrontation. One of them managed to flee the scene during the exchange of gunfire. The suspects are also reported to have thrown a grenade at the officers during the shootout.

Police believe the deceased suspect may be connected to a recent shooting incident in Kosgoda.
