Sri Lanka, June 19 -- The Government of Sri Lanka has welcomed the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the United States and the Iran, which establishes an immediate ceasefire between the two countries.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, Sri Lanka described the agreement as a significant step toward regional and global de-escalation.

The Ministry noted that the ceasefire provides a framework for the continuation of diplomatic negotiations and includes the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important shipping routes.
