Sri Lanka, Jan. 10 -- The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) announced that the country received a record-high amount of emigrant remittances in 2025, the highest in the 40-year history of foreign employment.
According to the Bureau, between January and December last year, Sri Lanka received US $8.07 billion (Rs. 2432 billion) from migrant workers, marking a 22.8% increase compared to the US $6.575 billion received in 2024.
The highest monthly remittance was recorded in December 2025, with a total of US $879.1 million sent home by Sri Lankan workers abroad.
