Sri Lanka, Sept. 3 -- Sri Lanka has launched its National Food Safety Policy, marking a major step towards strengthening food safety governance, protecting public health and building safer, healthier and more resilient agrifood systems.

The policy provides a strategic framework for coordinated, science-based and risk-based action on food safety across the entire food chain, from production to consumption.

The initiative is supported by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) through the EU-funded BESPA programme.

The policy is expected to strengthen coordination among stakeholders and provide a more integrated approach to identifying and managing food safety risks across Sri Lanka's agrifood sector.
