Sri Lanka, Nov. 6 -- The Election Commission has informed the factions of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) that the party cannot currently be considered a formally recognised political party.

The Commission has advised the factions to submit a fresh application seeking recognition as a registered political party after fulfilling the necessary requirements.

These include holding a formal party election in accordance with the required criteria for registration.
